Chapter 3 Managing in a Global Environment

1. Largest Companies in the World. Fortune magazine, in its annual listing called the “Global 500,” ranks the world’s largest companies based on sales revenue. Visit http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/rankings/ to view the most recent “Global 500” listing (normally published in July each year). Fill in the chart below:

2. Exchange Rates. Complete the following steps at http://www.x-rates.com. Record your findings for each step, and submit them to your instructor

(a)
Use the “Currency Calculator” to convert Can$200 into three other currencies of your choosing
(b)
Go to the “Currency Photos” link and examine the euro and identify the denominations that the euro is available in
(c)
Under “Custom Table,” convert one Canadian dollar into all other currencies, and then identify the currency that has the best exchange rate (buys the most of another currency) and the worst exchange rate (buys the least of another currency).

3. World Trade Organization. Visit the WTO at http://www.wto.org and answer the following questions:

  1. Where is the WTO located?
  2. When was it established?
  3. How many countries are members?
  4. What are the WTO’s main functions?
